Museum of Childhood, London
A stunning Marble Floor display, fresh from the John Madejski Garden at the V&A, commissioned by Wallpaper* for the annual London Design Festival in 2009. The double arch, made from 70 Ercol stacking chairs, was created by leading designer Martino Gamper, and is inspired by the very first Chair Arch, which was constructed in 1877 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s visit to High Wycombe.
The beautiful stacking chairs, made from beech and ash, were originally designed in 1956 for use in schools. Engineers Atelier One have constructed the sweeping organic form, which resembles a giant spine, using a dazzling array of rainbow colours.
